Department of Rheumatology

Rheumatology - Otar Jvania

The department provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of the full spectrum of rheumatic diseases.

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine that studies diseases of the bones, joints, muscles, and connective tissues. Rheumatologists are responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and subsequent prevention of diseases such as arthritis, various autoimmune disorders, and musculoskeletal disorders. In order to improve the patient's condition, they often participate in surgical interventions as well.

The department provides the diagnosis and treatment of the full spectrum of rheumatic diseases:

  • Systemic connective tissue diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis) and systemic vasculitis
  • Inflammatory rheumatic diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, seronegative spondyloarthropathies, Bechterew's disease, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, arthritis associated with chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, rheumatism, nodular erythema
  • Microcrystalline arthropathies (gouty arthritis, chondrocalcinosis)
  • Degenerative joint diseases (osteoarthritis of various localizations)
  • Soft tissue diseases around joints
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Osteoporosis

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

The most common type of lupus, this autoimmune disease significantly damages the joints, skin, brain, lungs, kidneys, and blood vessels. The main symptoms include severe fatigue, skin rashes, elevated body temperature, and joint swelling.

Dermatomyositis

A rare complication that primarily causes muscle weakness and skin rashes. Symptoms generally include difficulty swallowing and speaking.

Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma)

An autoimmune disease that causes inflammatory processes and fibrosis (thickening) in the skin and other areas of the body. In this case, tissues produce excessive amounts of collagen.

It is also important to note that rheumatology places significant emphasis on the timely diagnosis of autoimmune diseases.
